Enable provides employment and skills to help people with disabilities, or other barriers to employment, access the world of work.
The organisation engages with employers to challenge perceptions and help foster more inclusive workplaces. Its Stepping Up employability programme is delivered in schools across Scotland and the service footprint has been expanded with support from the Youth Action Fund to include assistance in North Lanarkshire, Moray and the Western Isles. The programme helps young people explore their aspirations, achieve work experience and secure a positive employability outcome when they leave school. Over the past decade, Stepping Up has supported 98% of those engaged in the programme to achieve a positive progression.

The organisation’s vision is that every person with a learning disability should have the choice and control to live independently in the community. The Disability Employment Gap is a Government measure used to understand the difference between those who are disabled and working compared to the non-disabled working population. At 32.8%, Scotland has the highest Disability Employment Gap in the UK, and disabled young people have experienced the largest fall in employment rates since 2002. If a young disabled person leaves school with no positive destination, they are four times more likely to be unemployed at 25.
